Engineering knowledge meets practical experience
On September 3, GeoForum México 2026 will bring together geotechnical engineers, academics, consultants, contractors, and industry specialists at the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles in Mexico City for an afternoon dedicated to geosynthetics and their application in civil and geotechnical engineering.
The program connects academic knowledge with engineering practice through technical presentations and case studies drawn from complex infrastructure projects. Speakers will examine how geosynthetics are being used to address difficult ground conditions, improve infrastructure performance, and respond to specific design and construction requirements.
The seminar will cover subjects ranging from advances in geotechnical construction and fundamental geosynthetic applications to specialized solutions involving soft soils, dewatering, reinforcement, and underground infrastructure.
A program focused on real engineering challenges
The technical program begins with a look at technological advances in geotechnical construction, followed by an introduction to the uses and applications of geosynthetics. The afternoon then moves into detailed case studies addressing increasingly complex engineering conditions.
One presentation will examine the construction of the Companhia Siderúrgica do Atlântico development on extremely soft soils using geosynthetic-encased columns. Another will explore geosynthetic dewatering systems for mining and industrial residues and the engineering considerations involved in these applications.
The program will also address recent experience designing over soft soils using exceptionally high-strength reinforcement, providing insight into the challenges associated with demanding ground conditions and major infrastructure projects.

Exchange beyond the presentations
Together, the sessions provide different perspectives on the relationship between ground conditions, design requirements, material performance, and construction. Rather than focusing only on individual technologies, the presentations will examine the engineering decisions behind their application and lessons that can be transferred to other projects.
The program brings together specialists from academia, consulting, and engineering practice, including Walter Iván Paniagua Zavala (PILOTEC), Alexandra Ossa of the Instituto de Ingeniería de la UNAM, Etienne Gonzalez (Geosyntec Consultants), Edwin Fernando Ruiz (ENGECORPS Engenharia – Grupo TYPSA), and Carlos Rodríguez (HUESKER).
Attendees will have several opportunities to connect and network with fellow participants and speakers throughout the event, including during the welcome lunch, coffee breaks, and the closing reception from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Under the auspices of SMIG
GeoForum México 2026 is being held under the auspices of the Sociedad Mexicana de Ingeniería Geotécnica (SMIG), with the support of the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).
The organization of GeoForum México 2026 is led by Óscar Rivas, Area Manager for Mexico and Central America at HUESKER, working in collaboration with SMIG and participating organizations to develop a program focused on the technical interests and engineering challenges of the region.
The event will take place on September 3, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles in Mexico City, in the Salón Bernardo Quintana. The program begins with registration and a welcome lunch, followed by the opening session and technical presentations, and concludes with a reception from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
The registration fee is MXN $250, including VAT, and registration is open through the SMIG SiDiSMIG platform. Valet parking will be available at the venue.
