Oil Absorption

A single liter of oil can contaminate many thousands of liters of groundwater. As some of the constituents exhibit poor degradability and pose a serious threat to living creatures, it is essential to prevent even the smallest quantities of oil from migrating into the environment. Mineral oils and other substances derived from crude oil, e.g. petrol, can enter the ecosystem via diverse routes. The risk of oil spillages and soil or groundwater contamination is particularly acute whenever machinery is used or maintained on unpaved areas.
